Madrid has the reputation to be The city in Spain for fish and the seafood and in Madrid one of the great references for fish and seafood is La Trainera.
Do not trust with misleading appearances of this restaurant: rustic tables without tablecloth, tavern looking… The fish here is delivered by plane and its freshness is never choked by complicated recipes. A la plancha most of the time, all these dishes are wonder of simplicity: gambas with garlic, merluza, turbot, grilled hake, zarzuela, and dozens of different seafood. So perfect that it is for example a kind of HQ of contemporary artists… You can trust them!!

Sergi Arola Gastro is the very new restaurant of Sergi Arola, one of the chefs in vogue in Spain at this moment. Disciple of Ferrán Adriá and Pierre Gagnaire, he belongs to what is regarded as the second generation of Spanish chefs. Arola, which acknowledges being the King of the thermomix, adores to change its menus almost every two months, here as in Barcelona where he obtained a big hit…
We thus advise you to follow its discoveries with the degustation menu at 160€ or the degustation menu with a superb wine selection (235€). If you walk by Retiro park, more precisely at the opposite side of the Prado Museum - we suggest you to try La Castela, a very, very good tapas bar.
Great tapas but with plenty of traditional other dishes like: the delicious croquetas with seafood, but also with chicken. Scrambled eggs with white beans and blood pudding. The list is long.. Try as many you can!!
But you must know that real gourmets come to La Castela only for fish (squids, burbot, sea-bream), rices and seafood, the other specialty of the place. It's a great restaurant... Great wine choice..

A small gold nugget that this Café Tabares, a tiny and chic restaurant held by Isabel Tabares. Only 20 persons by service, that is to say that it is necessary to book to discover this fine Spanish cuisine renewed daily according to the arrivals of the market. The specialties of the house are the puchero canario (ragout of the Canary Islands); the foie a la plancha, gambas Al ajillo and a dessert the tocino of cielo (kind of Andalusian flan).
It is simply perfect from the beginning to the end, although quite known now. Better book days before arrival!
