The employees of the subway of Madrid voted this morning, Wednesday, for an unlimited continuation of the strike but with the return of the minimum services.The minimum service will begin again as of Thursday (July 1st 2001) morning and all the day of Friday. The employees also decided not to block the subway this weekend.
The workers are protesting a 5% salary cuts considered by the regional government.Buses, taxis and suburban trains work but are overcrowded, traffic already complicated Madrid in normal days, is since the beginning of the week completely chaotic.
Complicated situation also for tourists on a journey in Spain. The subway is the best way for a rapid access to the airport of Madrid Barajas. Airline companies like Spanish company Iberia, recommend to their passengers to take their precautions and to imagine other means of transport not to miss their flights.
